  Ambassador Lyttelton Mncedisi Sobizana Mngqikana

Mr Lyttelton Mncedisi Sobizana Mngqikana was born on 26 August 1938 in East London, South Africa. His home language is Xhosa, but he is also conversant in English and Swedish.

Mr Sobizana Mngqikana got Bachelor of Arts degree in 1961 at the Fort Hare and Rhodes University. He majored in history and public administration.
In 1968 he got his Bachelor’s degree and a year later his Master’s degree in international relations at the University of London in the United Kingdom.

He served as the Deputy-Representative of the African National Congress of South Africa in the United Kingdom and West Europe from 1969 to 1973.
In 1974-1979 he was the Chief Representative of the African National Congress of South Africa in the Nordic Countries.
From 1983 he worked in Sweden, firstly in the Labour Bureau in Stockholm as an Assistant Officer until 2001, and then in 1988-1990 as the Chairperson of the African Congress Regional Political Committee.
In 2001 he was accredited as the Ambassador of South Africa to Turkey, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. His term there ended in 2007.
Currently he is the Ambassador of South Africa to Finland and Estonia.
